Bamboo is a vigorous and versatile plant that symbolizes grace, endurance and compromise as it bends but does not easily break.  Bamboo survives in the harshest conditions and endures nature?s challenges with resilience and flexibility. Standing tall and green year-round a bamboo forest sways in the wind reminding us of the strength, yielding and adaptability necessary during the powerful process of birth.

"I am always happy to see you in one of our client?s rooms." UIHC, Certified Nurse Midwife

Kembrew and I really appreciated Jun-Nicole's calm and reassuring presence in the prenatal, birth, and newborn stages. Her techniques were essential for coping with labor, and during the other times, she was full of practical advice. We appreciated that she did not have a dogmatic, black-and-white approach to such controversial issues as cloth vs. disposable, rooming-in vs. rooming-out, and supplementation with formula vs. exclusive breast milk. Instead she advocated keeping an open mind and responding to the situation at hand rather than sticking rigidly to preconceived ideas. As we were first-time parents with little previous experience with babies, she had lots of helpful tips for practical matters such as diapering, co-sleeping, and carriers. We would recommend her highly to anyone seeking a labor or postpartum doula." Lynne and Kembrew, Iowa City, IA

Hospital Staff Testimonials

"It was truly empowering to have a vaginal birth"

"I am typically a very private person and my belief system (e.g. I am not a "spiritual" person, I do not feel  strongly about "natural" childbirth, etc.) is such that I did not think that having a doula would be a good fit for me. I did know after the traumatic experience my husband and I went through during the birth of my first child, that we needed someone else involved with this birth to advocate for us and provide support.

After meeting with Jun-Nicole I was sold on the idea of having a doula or at least having HER as a doula.  I think that my change of heart had to do with the fact that she respected what we wanted for this birth without judgment.  She spent a lot of time getting to know my husband and I as individuals and walking us through how she would be able to help us when we were in the moment.  During the birth, she was very supportive of both of us.  I truly believe that without her expertise I would not have been able to have a VBAC.  She was able to help me with positioning, using the baby sling as a labor tool, and techniques to shift the baby when he was malpositioned.

This experience helped to ease the trauma I held from the birth of my first child and restored my faith in my body.  It was truly empowering to have a vaginal birth and Jun-Nicole helped to make this experience happen through her support during both the pregnancy and birth.  She is wonderful at what she does." -Teja, Iowa City, IA

"I just wanted to thank you again for helping me give birth in the way I always dreamed and hoped. I will always remember anchoring to your voice at the peak of those hardest contractions and feeling centered and strong through your skilled and gentle guidance. Especially when I hit transition and you got me re-grounded. I can't imagine having done it so perfectly without you. I will never be able to express the depth of my gratitude for your involvement in one of the greatest most profound experiences of my entire life. You make natural birth easy."

Kristie, Fairfield, Iowa

"A birth doula in general, and Jun-Nicole in particular, is an invaluable tool to have in one's birthing "tool-kit". Jun-Nicole provided accesses to many different (and useful) resources throughout the planning process. She also helped us to fully consider and think-through all aspects of the brithing process. She not only served as an advocate for me during the birthing process, but also helped me to better advocate for myself." Nicole, Coralville, IA

She was a huge help in creating my birth plan and really helped me gain confidence and assurance that I would have a wonderful birth experience.
